THE EXCHANGE GRAVEYARD — A LIVING REGISTRY

Your exchange died. Your cost basis didn't.

Blockchain records outlive companies. For every platform below: what happened, which records still exist, how to get them, and what's rebuildable from on-chain history when nothing else survives. Dead-exchange basis reconstruction is our specialty — it's the segment nobody else serves well.

Registry maintained with the same discipline as our country guides: dated, versioned (graveyard-2026.1), corrections welcome. Claims-portal links change — verify at the official bankruptcy administrator before acting.

FTX / FTX.US collapsed 11/2022 · Ch. 11

Records: the claims portal (administered by Kroll) exposed balances and transaction history for verified customers; many users also still have old confirmation emails and the pre-collapse CSV exports. Recovery: log into the FTX customer claims portal with your original account email; distributions include a statement of your holdings snapshot. Rebuildable from chain: deposits/withdrawals to your own wallets — yes, fully; internal trades — only from your exports or the portal data. Tax angle: distributions priced in petition-date USD create disposal events with unusual basis mechanics — exactly the kind of thing we document with evidence.

Celsius collapsed 7/2022 · Ch. 11

Records: the Stretto claims portal held account statements; distribution emails state coin quantities and the BTC/ETH conversion applied. Recovery: original account email at the claims portal; the app's export is gone. Rebuildable from chain: your deposits in/out — yes; Earn interest accruals — from statements only. Tax angle: the 2024 distributions (partly in BTC/ETH, partly equity) forced disposals of your original coins; basis allocation across the distribution needs documentation most filers don't have. We rebuild it.

BlockFi collapsed 11/2022 · Ch. 11

Records: BlockFi issued 1099s while alive (one of few); the Kroll claims portal carried balance statements. Recovery: claims portal + any 1099-B/1099-MISC in your tax documents email. Rebuildable from chain: transfers yes; interest history from statements/1099s. Tax angle: interest already reported as income sets the basis for those coins — commonly missed, commonly double-taxed.

Voyager collapsed 7/2022 · Ch. 11

Records: in-app statements gone; the Stretto portal held claim data; ~35% initial distribution in-kind through 2023. Recovery: claims portal with account email. Rebuildable from chain: your own deposits/withdrawals — yes. Tax angle: the unreturned ~65% is a loss whose character (and timing) depends on the estate's final resolution — document now, deduct correctly later.

Cryptopia hacked & liquidated 2019 (NZ)

Records: Grant Thornton NZ runs the liquidation portal; account balances were reconstructed from the exchange DB. Recovery: register at the liquidation claims portal; old trade-history emails help. Rebuildable from chain: deposits/withdrawals yes; the busy internal-trade history mostly no — which is why conservative $0-basis defaults + visible gaps matter. Tax angle: tiny altcoin lots from 2017-2018 with no records are the archetype of what our conservative-default + decision-card model exists for.

QuadrigaCX collapsed 2019 (CA) — keys died with the founder

Records: EY (trustee) published account balances from recovered DB copies. Recovery: the EY claims process closed; your acceptance letter states your balance. Rebuildable from chain: your own transfers yes. Tax angle: losses crystallized at distribution; pre-collapse trades are reconstructible only from your own records + chain.

Mt. Gox collapsed 2014 (JP) — rehabilitation paying out 2024+

Records: the rehabilitation trustee's system holds claim balances; the famous leaked trade logs float around but aren't official evidence. Recovery: the trustee's claim-filing system (login from your rehabilitation claim). Tax angle: 2024-25 repayments of 2013-era BTC are disposals with a DECADE of appreciation — basis documentation from 2013 is gold; we help reconstruct the chain-side story around it.

BitMart hacked 12/2021 — still operating

Records: the exchange lives; export your trade history CSV now while you can. Tax angle: the hack reimbursements created odd credit events; export everything and let the ledger sort it.

Hodlnaut · Zipmex · Vauld frozen/collapsed 2022 (SG/TH)

Records: judicial-management / moratorium portals per company; statements were emailed at freeze time. Recovery: administrator portals with your account email. Tax angle: partial recoveries over 2023-25 create staggered disposal events; keep every administrator email.

The DEX you forgot the name of the chain remembers

If it was on-chain, it never died: every swap, LP add/remove and claim is still there under your address. That's the record we rebuild from — with the tx hash cited next to every figure it produces.

We rebuild basis from platforms that no longer exist.

Chain data + whatever exports you still have + conservative defaults for the rest — every figure traceable, every gap visible, never guessed silently. The free scan shows what's recoverable before you pay anything.
