In Denmark, a gain and a loss are not the same size.
A crypto gain is other personal income — box 20 — taxed like salary at up to about 53 per cent. A loss is a deduction in box 58, worth about 26 per cent. And as a general rule they do not offset each other at all. So a year with equal gains and losses is not nil, and every tool that reports a net figure reports zero.

Gain in box 20 at up to 53 %, loss in box 58 at about 26 %, and no offsetting between them except in one narrow case.

Harvesting cannot fix the asymmetry
A Danish gain is taxed as personal income at up to 53% and the loss you harvest against it is a ligningsmæssigt fradrag worth about 26% — and as a general rule they do not meet at all. Harvesting 100,000 kr of losses against 100,000 kr of gains leaves roughly 27,000 kr of tax standing. Work out what you are holding at a loss →
Questions
Why does a break-even year cost me anything?
Because a Danish gain and a Danish loss are not two signs of the same number. A gain is «anden personlig indkomst» — box 20 — taxed like salary at up to about 53 per cent. A loss is a «ligningsmæssigt fradrag» in box 58, with a deduction value of about 26 per cent. And as a general rule you may not offset the loss on one transaction against the gain on another. So 100 000 kr of gains and 100 000 kr of losses is roughly 53 000 kr of tax against 26 000 kr of relief — about 27 000 kr owed on a year in which you made nothing.
Every other tax tool shows me a net figure. Is it wrong?
For Denmark, yes, and by the whole of the losses at the whole of the rate difference. Every other jurisdiction we implement nets in some form — the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Finland, and even Sweden, which merely quotes a loss down to 70 per cent. Denmark does not let the loss touch the gain in the first place. A netted answer here is not slightly optimistic.
When CAN I offset?
One narrow case: where a quantity of a single cryptoasset was bought in ONE transaction and then sold in stages within the same year, with no further purchase of that asset in between. One purchase, several sales, same year, nothing bought in the middle. This page tests those conditions rather than assuming them — assuming them is how a tool quietly nets a year it was not entitled to net.
Which order are my coins considered sold in?
FIFO, and across everything: the holdings on every exchange and in every wallet are treated as one combined holding and consumed oldest first. Not per exchange and not per wallet.
Which boxes do the figures go in?
Gains in box 20, «anden personlig indkomst». Losses in box 58, «øvrige lønmodtagerudgifter». Two different boxes because they are two different kinds of item, which is exactly why they do not net.
Is 53 per cent really my rate?
It is the ceiling, not your rate. Your marginal rate depends on your whole assessment — AM-bidrag, municipal tax, bottom-bracket and top-bracket tax, and the personal allowance — so this page shows the figure at the highest rate and does not pretend to know yours. The 26 per cent deduction value is SKAT's own figure for this kind of deduction.
What if I did not buy with a view to reselling at a profit?
Then this regime does not apply at all: the gain is outside your income and the loss is not deductible either. Whether an asset was acquired «i spekulationsøjemed» is a question about your intention when you bought it, and no software can see that. It is named here and not decided.
What about mining and staking?
